Faculty, alumna present at history conference
privatehad a strong presence at the annual meeting of the Oral History Association on October 24. The meeting was to have been held in Baltimore; however, it moved online due to the pandemic. Dr. Carolyn D. McCaskill, 鈥77, G-鈥79, & PhD 鈥05, Professor of Deaf Studies and founding director of the Center for Black Deaf Studies, presented on interviewing Black Deaf people, focusing on content from The Hidden Treasure: Its History and Structure of Black ASL. Dr. Erin Moriarty Harrelson, in 鈥淚nterviewing Through Different National Sign Languages,鈥 discussed the complexities of doing fieldwork in post-conflict Cambodia and interviewing homesigners. Brianna DiGiovanni, 鈥20, a graduate research assistant in the Drs. John S. and Betty J. Schuchman Deaf Documentary Center, discussed the dynamics of interviewing Deaf New Yorkers in her presentation 鈥淲hat’s that Sign: Interviewing Deaf New Yorkers.鈥 Dr. Brian H. Greenwald, 鈥96, Professor of History and director of the Schuchman Center, served as panel chair and moderator.
