Dr. Caroline Solomon, director of the School of Science, Technology, Accessibility, Mathematics, and Public Health, will receive an Excellence in Academia Award from the Gender Equality in Tech (GET) Cities, District of Columbia Region, on December 15, at the 2022 GET Cities Innovators Bash. This event is a year-end celebration of our collective accomplishments, with live music, art, technology demos, and an exhibition of some of our region鈥檚 top innovations created by women, trans, and nonbinary founders.

According to its , Gender Equality in Tech (GET) Cities is an initiative designed to accelerate the representation and leadership of women in tech through the development of inclusive tech hubs across the United States. 鈥淎 thriving tech economy will only exist when all of the talent in our workforce is engaged and has the opportunity to advance. Together, we can GET there.鈥

Dr. Solomon is being cited for her ongoing efforts to support marginalized communities in technology 鈥 including women, trans, and nonbinary people — that have helped signal the District of Columbia-Maryland-Virginia region鈥檚 commitment to building a diverse and economically competitive tech community.

GET Cities鈥 stated goals are to build pathways into tech, align local tech ecosystems, and create long-term systemic change. The organization is working to develop inclusive tech hubs across the United States. It launched in Chicago in January 2020 and Washington, D.C. in March 2021. It has recently expanded to Miami.
