Five privateHonors Program students attended the 2023 Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference March 30 to April 2 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Three of these students participated in roundtable presentations, and a fourth student presented a poster.聽

The conference theme was 鈥淏uilding Resilience from Tragedy: Understanding Hate, Violence, Loss, and Reconciliation.鈥 Students, faculty, and staff attended from about 40 institutions of higher learning throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

During a roundtable presentation on diversity, inclusion, and identity on Saturday, Tracy Gladding discussed 鈥淎nonymity Via Online Communities and Marginalized Communities, while Klijah Mitchell discussed 鈥淒efining What is Toxic Masculinity Versus Non-Toxic Masculinity.鈥 Later in the day, in the roundtable presentation titled 鈥淒iscussing Hate, Fear, and Human Rights,鈥 Lillian Berggoetz presented 鈥淧olicies and Positionality: Turning a Blind Eye to the Rwandan Genocide.鈥 Cynthia Ortega presented a poster, 鈥淭he Trauma Behind the Fantasies and Assumptions of Cochlear Implants.鈥 Also in attendance were student Neila Eaddy, Honors Program director Jennifer Nelson, and Assistant Director Kirk VanGilder.

According to its , the Northeast Regional Honors Council (NRHC) is 鈥渁n organization of students, faculty, and administrators dedicated to the encouragement and support of undergraduate honors learning. The NRHC provides its members with opportunities for the exchange of information, ideas, and assistance through its annual conference, its newsletter, and its scholarships. The NRHC encompasses Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Quebec, Ontario, and the Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.鈥
